The work of MOHV has been ongoing since 2008. In the summer of 2008, a group of 6 professionals and volunteers traveled to Vietnam. Two University of Oklahoma senior dental students and two dentists, Dr. Frank Evans and Dr. Robert Livingston, with the coordination of Hien and Huong Tran spent two weeks in the remote villages surrounding Hue and Quang Tri. The team performed much needed dental work on children and elderly with abscessed and rotting teeth. In the following years, the organization focused on serving the villages where extreme poverty and remote locality prevented the most needy from finding basic medical and dental care. To better serve the people, the mission grew to include dental, medical, optometric, and public health services. The current agency was officially named MOHV in 2013 and received 501(c)3 status in September 2013.
